Work Experience

Part-time Nails Technician  •  Hollywood Nails Ashford

March 2024  - Present  |  Ashford, Kent

  • This is a family-run business in which I work on the ' beauty' side but, as my aunt and uncle own and run the business, I also take an interest in the financial side. I am naturally quite reserved and found that interacting with people, in English and on a daily basis, has helped me to appreciate find good customer service - however difficult the situation. During a busy day at the nail bar, I took a client’s son to McDonald's when a long queue in the nail bar delayed his meal, turning a stressful wait into a memorable experience.

Accommodation Helper   •  Kent Union

15/09/2024 |  Canterbury, Kent

  • I had the opportunity of working as a welcome ambassador as part of a university team engaging with new students in fresher week. I found the work interesting, occasionally challenging. While struggling to find rooms for new students, I faced the daunting question of what would happen if I couldn’t secure space quickly, risking long waits for students and their parents during the move-in process. Fortunately, I teamed up with a colleague; while they located the rooms on the map, I stayed with the students and their families, providing comfort and a brief talk to ease their emotions while ensuring we found the right space before moving everyone in. It emphasized how important team-working and problem-solving are.

Treasurer  •  Kent Abacus

August 2024 - Present  |  Canterbury, Kent

  • I feel honoured to be elected as treasurer of this thriving society. I benefited from committee training provided by the Kent Union and the opportunity of fostering collaboration and community engagement, as well as improving the financial side of society through some fundraising events. One of my biggest challenges during my first two months in the role was overcoming my fear of public speaking. At an icebreaker event, I stood before a crowd of strangers, introducing myself loudly and clearly. Despite feeling shy, this experience taught me how to manage my emotions and boost my confidence.
