For most of his career, Candido Brown has been in education, serving in the classroom, in administration, and in educational policy development. A resident of Washington, DC, Candido Brown’s most recent position was that of director of operations at Ascend Public Charter Schools, based in New York City.
Before teaching in higher education, Mr. Brown began his career in 2005 as an education rights intern for the American Civil Liberties Union. At the same time, he became a summer teacher for the Teach Baltimore Program and was a public relations associate for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at Johns Hopkins University. He worked with these three organizations until 2008.
In the 2008-2009 academic year, Mr. Brown was a manager of literacy for the Office of Engagement in the Boston Public Schools while also serving as a donor relations manager at Harvard University. From 2009 to 2014, he worked in various capacities for two charter schools while being an Emerging Leader Fellow for the Building Excellent Schools organization.
In 2014, Candido Brown became an adjunct professor at the College of Education at Touro College, teaching courses to student teachers on topics like K-6 online and in-class literacy, special-education curricula, and other topics. In addition, he observed teachers-in-training in more than 15 schools, providing feedback on teaching methods.
