He has exhibited across the United States and has been added to various collections. He graduated in 2003 from Montclair State University with a Master's Degree in Fine Arts. The passion for drawing and painting has always accompanied him in parallel. During the last years, the materialization of his professional artistic project has focused on abstract painting. In his current work, Charlie Steg employs a process-driven call & response approach with the aesthetic goal of balancing shifting degrees of chaos and potential through the orchestration of organic and geometric structures. His paintings and commissions are included in many private collections.

Work Experience

Artist  •  Charlie Steg

May 2001 - Present

Charlie Steg is an American Modernist located in the heart of Hoboken, New Jersey. While he is primarily known as a painter, he also does extensive work with lithographs and woodcuts. Charlie works in the tradition of the great American nature painters, using the landscape as the inspiration for his abstract imagery. In his work, the outer world is internalized; the inner world is manifested in visible form." The natural forms in his work manifest in the drama of environmental violence - storms, eruptions, earthquakes and wildfires reflect the sublime turmoil of emotion. Through the years his subjects have changed from nature into the abstract and cubism art forms. His paintings show a fascination for sharp and unusual shapes with a compilation of exceptional colour combinations. There is an outspoken diversity in his themes, which represents a sense of inner-reflection and shows a focussed observation. Still Charlie Steg is not an artist who is easily satisfied and while developing he wants to be versatile and challenged in his work area. As an individual, Charlie is always on the search for knowledge. The only obstacles in the artist world are those we cannot understand. Even the hidden subjects can be interesting.
