Chayim Shvarzblat

Chayim Shvarzblat is born on December, 16th, 1954 in Queens, New York, in a well-to-do family of a businessman in a good cultural environment. He studied at New York School of Art.

In 1978 he moved to Paris where his father ran his tea factory. There, he enrolled at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, Paris. Chaym graduated in 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts in Painting.

Since 1978 he has participated in many art competitions.
His first award was the Harkness Fellowship. Secondly, Chayim was also awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship.

One of his greathest achievements is that he represented the USA at the 1992 Venice Biennale.

Shvarzblat became an artist-in-residence at Oxford University, London in 1983, but he left the teaching in 1985 and moved to Sicily. There he lived for 3 years and moved to south of France. While living on the Mediterranean, Shvarzblat started creating on location watercolor masterpieces of the stunning landscapes. Over the course of his career, he has created a number of on location painting of many countries around the world.

In 2010, Shvarzblat returned to the teaching. Since 2010, he works at the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University as visiting professor. There the painter teaches atmospheric watercolor, both in-studio and en plein air.

Additionally, Shvarzblat has his own atelier located in Manhattan, New York, where he creates his aquarelle masterpieces.

Since 2012, this painter is a Signature member of the National Watercolor Society, American Watercolor Society and the Transparent Watercolor Society of America, and an Artist member of the California Art Club.

Chayim Shvarzblat’s aquarelles have been presented on many national and international exhibitions in the most prestigious galleries. To mention a few: at The Phillips Collection in DC, The Hayward Gallery in London, The Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, and many others.
Also he has had over 20 solo exhibitions.
