Job Description

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development.
  • 5 years of experience with one or more of the following: Speech/audio (e.g., technology duplicating and responding to the human voice), reinforcement learning (e.g., sequential decision making), ML infrastructure, or specialization in another ML field.
  • 5 years of experience leading Machine Learning (ML) design and optimizing ML infrastructure (e.g., model deployment, model evaluation, data processing, debugging, fine tuning).
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role.
  • 2 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in content safety applied to software products.
  • Experience in Responsible AI or safety-adjacent fields, such as factuality, or product policy.
  • Experience with scaling pipelines, deploying systems, and designing defensive architecture to meet Service Level Objectives (SLOs).
  • Knowledge of machine learning and Large Language Models (LLMs), and concepts of transformers, activations, and how to train and deploy them.

With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.

The Content Safety organization in Core provides safety solutions that protect Google’s users from exposure to offensive, sensitive or harmful content. The team combines subject matter expertise in the content safety domain and a practice of machine learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based techniques with the production-grade experience in serving infrastructure and product integrations to protect users from harm, maintain Google’s engagement in the area of online safety across the industry, and make foundational models and the internet safer for society.The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.

Responsibilities

  • Set and communicate team priorities that support the broader organization's goals. Align strategy, processes, and decision-making across teams.
  • Set clear expectations with individuals based on their level and role and aligned to the broader organization's goals. Meet regularly with individuals to discuss performance and development and provide feedback and coaching.
  • Deliver high-quality, future-proof content safety solutions that combine content safety protection with production-grade infrastructure.
  • Create a productive and collaborative engineering culture for our new site, ensuring growth and development opportunities for everyone on the team.
  • Protect users from exposures to offensive, sensitive or potentially harmful content, and unlock new opportunities for the business.
