Job Description

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Package Engineering, Materials or Process Engineering, a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in Manufacturing, Quality, or Packaging.
  • Ability to communicate in Mandarin and English fluently to work with the relevant stakeholders.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Knowledge of printed retail packaging manufacturing processes and design.
  • Knowledge of retail type electronic device packaging manufacturing quality control.
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and cross-regionally across various teams.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, statistical process control, failure analysis, and program management skills.

About the job

As a Supplier Development Engineer, you will cover technical program management, Process engineering and Quality engineering. You will focus on manufacturing delivery of packaging parts which are designed to protect the device and facilitate a user experience with regards to packaging. You will cover both New Products Introduction (NPI) phase and sustaining mass production. The coverage starts from raw material receipt, printing, structural forming, assembly and delivery from packaging supplier into device factory for application.

In this role, you will be refining the supplier's Quality system management to match Google's expectation, and manage early engagement with the design team, sourcing managers and suppliers are expected for NPIs (e.g., supplier selection, DFM).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement supplier management strategies for Google Hardware packaging, collaborating with Global Supply Manager (GSM) and Product Engineer (PE).
  • Source and qualify packaging suppliers, ensuring alignment with Google's quality standards and product delivery timelines.
  • Oversee new product development builds in supplier factories, focusing on high yield rates and efficient pack-out operations.
  • Own packaging supplier manufacturing readiness for new product introductions and manage overall quality.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Industrial Designers and Design Engineers, to ensure packaging quality and manufacturability. Provide technical support and training to suppliers, ensuring compliance with Google's specifications and quality standards.
