Job Intro

We are looking for a Senior Product Designer who sees design as a core part of building the product—not simply a function that turns requirements into interfaces.

At Cake, Product Designers work closely with PMs and engineers from the earliest stage of a problem: understanding users, questioning assumptions, defining product direction, exploring solutions, and shipping them into the hands of real users.

You will own meaningful product areas across Cake’s web and mobile experiences, including AI-powered job search and hiring products used by millions of people globally.

We are looking for someone with strong product sense, excellent interaction and visual design skills, and the ownership to independently turn ambiguous problems into impactful products.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end product design across web and mobile, from problem discovery and product definition to launch and iteration.
• Partner closely with PMs and engineers to identify user and business problems, shape product solutions, and make thoughtful trade-offs.
• Turn complex workflows into intuitive, polished, and scalable product experiences.
• Use qualitative insights, data, and product context to continuously improve shipped experiences.
• Explore and design AI-native product experiences for job search, career development, and hiring.
• Contribute to and evolve Cake’s design system while maintaining a high bar for product quality.
• Take ownership of high-impact projects and proactively push ideas forward rather than waiting for predefined requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience designing user-facing digital products.
• Strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end product thinking and high-quality interaction and visual design.
• Strong product sense, with the ability to understand user needs, business goals, and technical constraints.
• Ability to independently define and solve ambiguous product problems.
• Proficiency in Figma and experience working with design systems.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, especially with PMs and engineers.
• A builder mindset with strong ownership and bias toward shipping, learning, and iteration.

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience designing AI-powered or AI-native products.
• Experience maintaining or scaling a large design system.
• Understanding of frontend development and technical constraints.
• Experience designing SaaS, HRTech, or marketplace products.
• Experience designing global or multilingual products.
• Ability to write clear and effective UI copy.

Portfolio Requirements

A portfolio with at least 1–2 strong product design case studies is required. Please include your portfolio URL in the designated field on the application form.

We care less about polished final screens alone and more about how you think and build products. Your case studies should help us understand:

• How you identified and framed the problem.
• How you balanced user needs, business goals, and technical constraints.
• How you worked with PMs and engineers to shape the solution.
• The key decisions and trade-offs you made.
• What you shipped, what impact it created, and what you learned afterward.

We value designers who can demonstrate strong product judgment, clear design rationale, and the ability to turn ambiguous problems into meaningful user outcomes.
