This role

Our world-class Product and Engineering teams delivered almost 1,000 new features last year. As one of our pioneering Engineers in our new Taiwan Tech Hub, you'll play a vital role in the continued acceleration of our product strategy.

This is not a typical “Senior Engineer” role.

This is a founding engineer position in a newly established tech hub, where you will influence architecture, engineering standards, hiring, and technical direction across a platform used by hundreds of thousands of businesses.

You’ll be accountable for building and deploying the innovative features that change our customers’ lives every day. From our trailblazing AI hiring tool to our fully automated payroll solution, every component of our Employment Operating System is carefully designed to disrupt the employment industry for the better, improving the lives of business owners and entrepreneurs everywhere.

Our world-class Product and Engineering teams delivered almost 1,000 new features last year. As one of our Senior Engineers, you’ll play a vital role in the continued acceleration of our product strategy.

This is a 100% full WFH remote setup, you will be working in the Taiwan timezones.

This will include

• Technical Leadership & Architecture
  • Design and own complex backend systems, distributed architectures, and scalable services
  • Lead technical discovery with Product & Design, translating requirements into robust system designs
  • Make high-impact technical decisions that shape our Employment OS platform and its future direction
• Hands-On Engineering
  • Develop critical features across our stack (primarily Ruby on Rails, with TypeScript, React, and modern DevOps tooling)
  • Build APIs and backend services that support high throughput and rapid feature development
  • Write clean, reliable, well-tested code and ensure the same quality across your squad
• Operational Excellence
  • Drive best practices in code quality, observability, testing, CI/CD, and performance
  • Improve system reliability, scalability, and developer experience across the platform
• Mentorship & Squad Development
  • Coach and mentor engineers across levels to uplift technical capability in the region
  • Participate in technical interviews and help shape the senior engineering bar for the hub

Who you are

• Deep Technical Expertise
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience (we value capability > time)
  • Strong backend engineering experience in high-scale or complex systems
  • Proficiency in one or more modern languages (Ruby, Python, Go, Node, TypeScript, etc.) — we’ll upskill you in Ruby
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems, API design, relational databases, and asynchronous architectures
• Architecture & System Design Ownership
  • Experience making architectural decisions, not just implementing tasks
  • Ability to break down complex problems into scalable, elegant engineering solutions
  • Comfort with performance optimisation, debugging, and refactoring legacy systems when needed
• Engineering Maturity
  • Strong knowledge of modern SDLC, code review excellence, automated testing, and production-quality practices
  • Track record of improving engineering standards, reliability, and team velocity
• Leadership Behaviour
