Educated in Germany, Dr. Hartmuth Bittner earned his MD magna cum laude from the University of Heidelberg Medical School in Heidelberg, and his PhD summa cum laude from the National Academy of Sports and Sports Sciences. In the US, he completed nearly a decade of clinical training at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, ultimately leaving the institution as its chief resident of cardiothoracic surgery. Dr. Hartmuth Bittner is also a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and has been certified through the American Board of Thoracic Surgery since 1998.
Ultimately settling in Florida, Dr. Bittner served as director of heart/lung transplantation and chief of advanced cardiac surgery at Florida Hospital in Orlando from 2012 to 2015. He subsequently founded the Gulf Coast Cardiothoracic Surgery Institute (GCCSI) in Tampa. For the past 5 years, Dr. Hartmuth Bittner has performed a range of traditional and minimally invasive procedures as both the clinical and administrative head of GCCSI.
