In the US, he completed nearly a decade of clinical training at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, ultimately leaving the institution as its chief resident of cardiothoracic surgery. Dr. Hartmuth Bittner is also a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and has been certified through the American Board of Thoracic Surgery since 1998.<br><br>Ultimately settling in Florida, Dr. Bittner served as director of heart/lung transplantation and chief of advanced cardiac surgery at Florida Hospital in Orlando from 2012 to 2015. He subsequently founded the Gulf Coast Cardiothoracic Surgery Institute (GCCSI) in Tampa.
