A. Alberto Lugo

CEO and Founder of Framing Futures Architectural Firm (FFAF)
A. Alberto Lugo, the visionary founder and CEO of Framing Futures Architectural Firm (FFAF) in Southern California, has led the company with unwavering dedication since its establishment in 2019. Under his leadership, FFAF has become renowned for its innovative approach to architectural design, seamlessly blending functionality with aesthetic elegance. As the principal architect, Lugo's day-to-day responsibilities involve steering the firm's creative direction and managing its expansive portfolio of commercial and public projects. Lugo's journey into architecture began after a notable shift from a budding career in business to pursuing his true passion. He initially graduated with a Bachelor of Business from the University of Pennsylvania in 2000, but his growing interest in building and design prompted a significant career change. This led him to Cornell University, where he obtained his Master of Architecture with distinction in 2002. His time at Cornell was not just about academic pursuits but a period of profound personal and professional growth. He further specialized in Building Science and Technology and Environmental Systems, returning to Cornell in 2003 to focus on environmentally conscious building practices. This educational path laid the foundation for his future endeavors in sustainable architecture. Before founding FFAF, Lugo amassed a wealth of experience in the architecture industry, holding various significant roles that shaped his expertise and leadership style. He started his career as an intern, which quickly transitioned into a pivotal role as a Project Architect in Albany, NY, at a firm founded by his father in 1990. His tenure in Albany was a learning curve that introduced him to the complexities and challenges of architectural design and client management. In 2002, he formally joined his father's firm, where he spent several years honing his skills and expanding his architectural vision. After leaving Albany, Lugo moved to San Francisco, where he served as a Senior Architectural Design Strategist for Macaby and Roy. This role was followed by a promotion to Senior Architect in 2008, marking a significant milestone in his career. His responsibilities expanded, and he began to take on more ambitious projects. Lugo's next professional chapter was at Parkins and Rhodon in New York and later at Fentrell Architects in San Francisco, where he spent a decade as a Senior Architect. During this period, he led numerous high-profile projects, from designing commercial centers to planning multi-story houses of worship. His work demonstrated his architectural prowess and his ability to lead and inspire teams. Lugo's commitment to environmental sustainability is a significant part of his career. This principle has guided much of his work and led to the founding of the Architecture and Earth Awareness Foundation in 2015. Through this foundation, Lugo has been influential in promoting sustainable practices among architects, construction companies, and structural engineers. The foundation has successfully influenced over 400 large-scale building projects globally, integrating green technologies and methods that reduce environmental impact. His contributions to architecture and environmental sustainability have garnered him numerous accolades and recognition within the industry. Among these, Lugo was nominated for the prestigious Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2019 and won the Architectural Visionary Prize in 2021. These awards are a testament to his influence and impact on architecture. Beyond his professional life, Lugo is deeply passionate about nature and conservation. He regularly engages in outdoor activities, including fishing and hiking in remote areas, which allow him to connect with the environment and draw inspiration for his work. He is also an active volunteer, offering his pro-bono services to organizations like Habitat for Humanity, Homes for Veterans, and The Make It Right at Home Foundation, demonstrating his commitment to societal and environmental welfare. At the core of his personal life, Lugo is a family man. He lives with his wife, Genavieve, their two sons, and a menagerie of pets, including three Alaskan Malamutes and a goldfish named Lou. For Lugo, his family is his most outstanding achievement and source of joy, grounding him in values beyond the architectural landscapes he creates. A. Alberto Lugo's career combines artistic vision, technical expertise, and an unwavering commitment to improving the world through sustainable architecture. As he continues to lead and innovate, his work remains a significant contribution, inspiring future architects to merge creativity with conscientious design.
