Bo Nicholson

Investment Adviser
Bo Nicholson's journey began in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he was raised alongside his two younger brothers, William and Henry. Raleigh’s influence on his upbringing has shaped his professional and personal life, allowing him to stay closely connected to the city that helped mold his character. After high school, Bo moved to Athens, Georgia, to attend the University of Georgia, where he graduated from the Terry College of Business in 2010. His time at UGA was marked by academic achievement and his dedication to music. He became a member of Mama’s Love, a rock band that toured the Southeast and recorded original music in respected studios like Southern Ground in Atlanta. The opportunity to work with producer John Keane gave him a firsthand look into the music industry. This experience gave him valuable lessons in discipline, collaboration, and the power of a shared goal—insights that continue to influence his work today. Though Bo eventually moved away from a music career, his passion for the art form has never waned. He frequently performs with a local cover band, Steamroom Etiquette, and enjoys occasional reunions with former bandmates. Music continues to serve as a creative and personal outlet for him, keeping him grounded outside of his professional commitments. Bo’s professional career in finance began in 2012 when he joined Merrill Lynch as a financial advisor. He completed the company’s Practice Management Development program and focused on building his client base through traditional grassroots efforts, including cold calling, door-to-door outreach, and hosting educational seminars. These early experiences were instrumental in shaping his relationship-focused approach to financial advising, where client service and long-term connections are at the core of his work. In 2016, Bo transitioned to Capital Investment Companies and partnered with Greg Hicks and Wanda Cooper at Financial Resource Management (FRM). The firm’s emphasis on putting clients first and fostering long-term relationships aligned with his values. Since joining, he has been key in expanding FRM’s advisory services, working with high-net-worth families and business owners across North Carolina. Today, FRM has offices in Raleigh, Greensboro, and Atlantic Beach. Bo holds the Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) and Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor™ (CRPC®) designation, which he earned in 2016 and 2013, respectively. He is also a graduate of the Dale Carnegie Course and a member of the President’s Council at Capital Investment Companies, an acknowledgment of exceptional client service and performance. In addition to his work as a financial advisor, Bo co-hosts a personal finance radio show that airs weekly throughout the Triangle and Crystal Coast. The show provides practical advice on various economic topics and aims to make financial education more accessible and engaging for the community. Bo’s approach to financial planning is rooted in clarity, trust, and a long-term perspective. He focuses on simplifying complex financial decisions for his clients, helping them reduce taxes and make informed decisions about their future. Whether assisting clients in planning for retirement, managing family wealth, or navigating business transitions, he tailors his approach to meet their goals. Outside of work, Bo married Seely Stephenson in 2018. Together, they have two children, Grove (born in 2021) and Bill (born in 2023), along with their loyal yellow lab, Parker. He enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, and exploring the North Carolina coast. His passion for music remains, and he stays actively involved in the local music scene. As he looks ahead, Bo continues to focus on growth in his career and personal life. He remains committed to serving his clients with integrity, building long-lasting relationships, and helping them achieve their financial goals.
