Brian Kersten Wisconsin

Veterinarian
Brian Kersten Wisconsin, a dedicated veterinarian, has been profoundly committed to the well-being of animals throughout his extensive career. Growing up on a farm in Appleton, Wisconsin, he developed a strong connection with animals, which later inspired him to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from the University of Minnesota, where he graduated with high distinction in 1977, he embarked on a path to become a respected figure in the field. In 2021, he took a significant step forward in his commitment to making veterinary care more accessible by opening the Mercy Veterinary Service in Baldwin, Wisconsin. This clinic, which he founded and managed, provides low-cost veterinary services to the community, focusing on small animal medicine, surgery, and dentistry. His work ensures that pets receive the care they need regardless of their owners' financial situations. He also serves as a relief veterinarian in Amery, Wisconsin, where he offers his expertise to multiple veterinary practices, broadening his impact on animal health. His journey into veterinary medicine began with his graduation from veterinary school in 1983. Initially, he worked in a mixed animal practice in Burlington, Wisconsin, gaining crucial experience in various veterinary disciplines. In 1985, his career took a philanthropic turn when he moved to Haiti for two and a half years to aid in relief and development projects, significantly impacting the lives of the rural poor and their animals. Upon his return to the U.S. in 1987, he joined a mixed animal practice in Baldwin, Wisconsin. By 2001, he had purchased the practice, significantly enhancing its services and community reach. He also led the Pierce St. Croix Humane Society from 2001 to 2003 as its President, demonstrating his dedication to animal welfare. Despite selling his practice in 2016, he continued his mission to deliver affordable veterinary care, eventually establishing his clinic in 2021, which has become a cornerstone for pet health in the community. His involvement in philanthropy extends beyond his veterinary work. He volunteers at Today's Harvest Food Shelf, where he helps manage operations and assists individuals facing food scarcity. Additionally, his participation in the Mercy Corps underscores his commitment to global humanitarian efforts, supporting communities in crisis worldwide. He also contributes his veterinary skills to Barefoot Crow Animal Rescue, providing essential care to rescued animals and ensuring they can live healthier lives. Outside his professional and volunteer activities, he enjoys a rich personal life. He is married with four grown children and successfully balances his professional duties with his family life. His hobbies, which include playing the guitar, gardening, reading, and engaging in physical activities, mirror his commitment to continuous improvement and personal enrichment. From his humble beginnings on a farm in Appleton to his prominent role as a compassionate veterinarian and philanthropist, Brian Kersten Wisconsin's career is marked by a steadfast dedication to service and improving the lives of animals and people. As he celebrates his 40th veterinary school graduation anniversary in 2023, his enduring legacy of care and compassion inspires and impacts the community and beyond.
