Bryan Hackleman

Mechanical Engineer in Semiconductor Industry
Bryan Hackleman is a dedicated Mechanical Engineer employed at Advanced Energy in Fort Collins, Colorado. The company plays a critical role in designing and manufacturing products that serve a wide range of industries, including semiconductors, flat panel displays, data storage, telecommunications networks, solar cells, medical devices, and architectural glass. In his role, Bryan utilizes his strong analytical skills to excel in research, evaluation, and problem-solving. His work involves troubleshooting complex issues and managing projects from inception to completion. He is proficient in using ASME Y14.5 GD&T and various CAD programs, including PTC Creo, SOLIDWORKS, ANSYS, and Fluent. He is also skilled in data analysis, employing tools such as Excel, Matlab, and Minitab. His expertise extends to finite element analysis and computational fluid dynamics, and he has a thorough understanding of Design-For-Manufacture (DFM) and Design-For-Manufacturing-Assembly (DFMA) principles, which are integral to his role. At Advanced Energy, Bryan is responsible for designing equipment essential for the production of semiconductor devices. He leverages SolidWorks to create derivative RF generators, modifying existing designs to meet the specific needs of the company's clients. His work includes the design of sheet-metal enclosures, heatsinks, and cable assemblies. He also oversees the efficient packaging of electronic circuitry within protective enclosures and plays a crucial role in troubleshooting, testing, and debugging prototype power supply units. Bryan is also responsible for maintaining and improving the company's existing RF generator lines. He qualifies new mechanical and electrical components, especially when current ones become obsolete or are in short supply. His role includes performing thermal analysis to ensure that the components meet the company's high-reliability standards. In addition to these responsibilities, Bryan supports the production process by addressing mechanical component issues as they arise. He focuses on resolving DFM concerns and improving assembly operations to enhance overall efficiency. He works closely with suppliers to address any problems with parts that do not meet specified tolerances, providing recommendations for rework or adjustments as necessary. Before advancing to his current role, Bryan gained experience as an Assembler at Advanced Energy. In this position, he was responsible for independently assembling and testing both electrical and mechanical components, working from detailed schematics, diagrams, and verbal instructions. He also ensured that the lab environment was clean and organized, which was crucial for maintaining safety and efficiency. Bryan's educational background includes earning both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Colorado State University (CSU). His thesis research focused on the regeneration of oxidation catalysts through chemical washing. This work led to the co-authorship of a paper that was presented at the 2018 Gas Machinery Conference in Kansas City, Missouri. During his time at CSU, Bryan also worked as a Research Assistant in the CSU Hydraulics Laboratory, where he maintained equipment, prepared soil erosion experiments, and fabricated scale models for performance testing. He also worked as a Research Engineer for Pipeline Research Council International, where he conducted research on the degradation of oxidation catalysts and evaluated the effectiveness of chemical washing treatments. Outside of his professional career, Bryan Hackleman is passionate about art, particularly painting and drawing, with a focus on oil landscapes. He hopes to turn this creative pursuit into a side career by selling his artwork in the future. Additionally, he enjoys outdoor activities such as fly fishing and hiking, which are a reflection of his deep connection to his home state of Colorado. He is also an avid reader who enjoys exploring new ideas and learning in both his personal and professional life.
