Role Overview:
As a Project Manager, I am responsible for overseeing the development of a sophisticated tax calculation system to support California state tax laws for San Diego County. This project involves close collaboration with multiple organizations, including Peraton (a US-based company), FPT Software (offshore team), and the client. My role involves managing cross-functional teams, ensuring effective communication between stakeholders, and ensuring the project is delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Planning & Execution: Led the end-to-end management of the tax calculation system development, from requirements gathering and project initiation to delivery and deployment for San Diego County. Ensured all phases of the project were planned, executed, and monitored effectively.
Stakeholder Management: Acted as the primary point of contact between San Diego County, Peraton (US-based team), FPT Software (offshore team), and other key stakeholders. Ensured clear communication, expectations alignment, and transparency throughout the project lifecycle.
Team Leadership & Coordination: Directed a cross-functional team, including onshore and offshore resources, ensuring that the development process was smooth and timelines were met. Facilitated collaboration among geographically dispersed teams while addressing time zone differences and communication barriers.
Risk & Issue Management: Proactively identified, assessed, and managed project risks and issues. Developed and implemented mitigation strategies to minimize impacts on project scope, timeline, and quality.
Budget & Resource Management: Managed project budget and resources, ensuring efficient allocation of both financial and human capital. Monitored project expenditures to ensure adherence to budgetary constraints.
Agile Project Management: Applied Agile project management principles, facilitating regular sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives. Coordinated with Scrum Masters to ensure agile best practices were followed.
Backlog and Timeline Management: Worked closely with Product Owners and business stakeholders to prioritize the project backlog, ensuring alignment with client needs and regulatory requirements for tax calculations. Ensured timely delivery of features in line with agreed timelines.
Quality Assurance: Worked closely with Quality Assurance teams to ensure that the system adhered to all legal and functional specifications required by San Diego County. Facilitated user acceptance testing (UAT) and ensured the resolution of all identified issues.
Continuous Improvement: Promoted a culture of continuous improvement by driving process enhancements, conducting retrospectives, and implementing feedback to optimize project delivery efficiency and effectiveness.
Reporting & Documentation: Maintained project documentation, including status reports, risk logs, and project plans. Provided regular updates to executive stakeholders and ensured all project activities were properly tracked and documented.
