Chapin Newhard founded 48North, a buy-side advisory firm established in 2023 to help family-owned and founder-led businesses find the right private equity partners. His mission is to offer entrepreneurs the support they need to confidently navigate growth, retirement, or other key business decisions.
The idea for 48North grew from Chapin’s experience working at Pine Tree Equity, a private equity firm in Miami specializing in service businesses. While there, he witnessed many business owners' challenges when considering selling their companies. The process could be overwhelming, especially for those who have never sold a business, with numerous buyers reaching out and confusing the options available. Chapin recognized a market gap and needed an advisory service that works solely on behalf of the business owner without charging any upfront fees.
Chapin’s response was to create 48North, a firm with a business model that ensures business owners can access expert advice without financial risk. 48North only collects compensation from the buyer once a deal is finalized, ensuring that business owners can receive valuable guidance without paying upfront.
48North offers buy-side advisory, capital raising, and succession planning services. The firm helps business owners identify investors or buyers who align with their goals and values through its buy-side advisory services. By tapping into a network of private equity firms, Chapin ensures that his clients are presented with the best possible opportunities.
48North offers capital-raising services for businesses seeking growth to help them secure the right investment. The firm simplifies the capital-raising process, making it easier for owners to find the right partners. Additionally, 48North helps with succession planning, guiding business owners through leadership transitions, whether passing the business to the next generation or bringing in an external buyer.
