She then attended Princeton University, graduating Cum Laude in 1991 with a degree in Politics. She went on to teach English in Japan for two years through the Princeton-in-Asia program before entering Tulane University School of Medicine, where she graduated in the top 5% of her class in 1998. She completed her residency at Texas Children’s Hospital/Baylor College of Medicine and earned honors, including Alpha Omega Alpha membership and the Herbert B. Rothschild, M.D. Award, and the Janet M. Glasgow Memorial Achievement Citation. She has dedicated her time to disaster relief efforts following Hurricanes Katrina and Harvey, contributed to advocacy groups such as Moms Demand Action and Physicians for a Safer Future, and helped educate the public during the COVID-19 pandemic. Alongside her medical practice, she and her family have supported numerous community and charitable organizations that focus on health, safety, and public service. She has balanced her career in pediatrics with raising a family. Married for over 30 years, she and her husband have raised their children while remaining active in their community.
