Christopher Goisse has had a fulfilling career as a psychiatric nurse that has spanned several decades. He began his journey in the healthcare industry, working part-time as a psychiatric nurse at two hospitals. He gained a wealth of experience assessing and evaluating patients with mental health problems related to adolescent, geriatric, and substance use issues. He also developed solid administrative skills while working at WVU Hospitals - Ruby Memorial Hospital during this time. He expanded his expertise in various physical healthcare specialties, including ENT, general medicine, and cardiology. With his vast experience and strong leadership skills, Christopher trained and coordinated staff, mentored new hires, and managed two medical-surgical units with 64 patients, ten registered nurses, and eight nursing assistants. His dedication to improving and streamlining operations led him to the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Bruceton Mills, WV, where he served as an officer in the United States Public Health Service. Christopher began his role as a clinical nurse, providing direct healthcare to inmates, before transitioning to administrative duties that involved developing new systems to assess and mitigate the various risks inherent to the prison population for the safety of inmates and staff. His skills in reporting communicable diseases to federal and community health agencies and liaising between the facility and public health authorities were instrumental in his progression to the RN case manager position for the United States Marshals Service.
