Earl Fenner

Strategic Business Leader
Earl Fenner is an experienced business leader with nearly three decades in the global building materials industry. He has managed operations with full P&L accountability, directed teams of more than 400 employees, and consistently focused on efficiency, innovation, and measurable growth. A balance of financial discipline, strategic execution, and a strong dedication to employees and customers has shaped his career. Fenner earned a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Florida and later completed an MBA at Pepperdine University. His career began in the early 1990s, when he took on plant management, product development, and manufacturing leadership roles. These experiences gave him a strong foundation in cost control, process improvement, and technical expertise. His ability to manage capital projects, streamline operations, and guide product lifecycles helped him advance into senior management, where he expanded strategies and strengthened market presence. A key achievement was his leadership of the Ultralight Wallboard initiative, introducing the first lightweight drywall technology. By guiding a cross-functional team of more than 100 people, he successfully launched USG’s SHEETROCK® Brand Ultralight Panels. This innovation not only represented a technical advancement but also became a turning point for the company’s recovery following the Great Recession. In later leadership roles, Fenner directed global marketing strategies, developed partnerships that increased visibility, and led innovation efforts that earned the CEO Award. As Director of Operations, he oversaw a division generating more than $495 million annually and created the “Field Champions” program to recognize and retain high-performing employees. His role as General Manager of the Specialty Ceilings business marked a defining point, where he implemented structured processes that lifted unit value by 350 percent, improved delivery, and enhanced employee engagement. Beyond his professional work, he has remained active in community service, including school volunteering, mentorship, and conservation support in Colorado. A committed family man and marathon runner, he carries the same persistence in his personal life as in his career. Earl Fenner’s journey reflects consistent leadership, innovation, and resilience, leaving a lasting impact on the building materials industry.
