Jake Petrasch

Property Manager
Jake Petrasch, fully Jake John Garrit Petrasch Jr., is the entrepreneurial spirit behind Valley Anglers in Vermont's Mad River Valley, where he combines his passions by offering guided fly fishing trips and a comprehensive array of fishing gear. His professional background encompasses over two decades in education, property management, site coordination, and fly fishing, augmented by personal interests that include surfing, skateboarding, biking, hunting, and salt and freshwater fishing. He obtained a bachelor's degree in fine arts from St. Lawrence University in 2001 and furthered his education with a master's in middle-level Education from Johnson State College in 2007. His academic pursuits also included a semester at the National Outdoor Leadership School, accredited by the University of Utah. Jake's career trajectory has seen him excel in various capacities, including teaching, property management, and as a site coordinator, enriching his ability to manage and educate. In 2005, he founded Valley Anglers LLC, which has allowed him to nurture his teaching skills and share his fly fishing passion, teaching casting techniques, entomology, and knot tying. His teaching career began in earnest in 2010 at Counseling Services of Addison County, where he supported high school students outside traditional educational frameworks. He later joined Harwood Union High School as a paraeducator, where he launched an academic support program called Call Back. His role expanded at Montpelier High School, where he was a site coordinator, running the Outing Club and contributing to a CrossFit program. Since 2018, Jake has managed Integrated Property Services LLC, overseeing property maintenance for numerous residences in the area, demonstrating his versatile skill set in property management. Born in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1977 and adopted shortly after that, Jake spent his childhood summers in Nantucket, absorbing the area's rich maritime and sporting traditions. His personal life took a significant turn while at St. Lawrence University, where he met his future wife. They married in 2005 in Stowe, Vermont. Fly fishing is more than a hobby for Jake; it is a transformative activity that marked the beginning of his sobriety in 1999. This passion led him to professional fly fishing, where he enjoys both the tranquil waters of Vermont and the challenging marine environments of Belize. Aside from fishing, Jake rekindled his love for surfing later in life, crafting surfboards and chasing waves in Maine. Motorcycling is another passion, and Jake has a particular affinity for Harley Davidson, reflecting his appreciation for classic American engineering. Hunting remains a family tradition, profoundly connecting him with nature and the outdoors. He also cherishes time spent on the Maine Coast, which is known for its wildlife and historic lighthouses. Jake's life is a testament to the power of resilience and commitment, especially highlighted by his open journey with sobriety. He continues to share his experiences, emphasizing the profound personal growth and stability he has found through overcoming life's challenges, always striving to "Hold Fast" to his core values and beliefs.
