Jill Abram, a board-certified psychiatrist from Indiana, has dedicated 38 years to psychiatric medicine with a focus on child and adolescent care. Her mission has been to restore health and wellness to communities, families, and individuals through both direct care and collaborative efforts with other health professionals. Dr. Abram's extensive career and academic background have equipped her with a comprehensive skill set in mental health services, making her a distinguished figure in her field.
Throughout her career, she has profoundly affected the lives of numerous individuals. Her professional journey began at the Homeless Mobile Team at Midtown Mental Center in Indianapolis, where she worked from 1988 to 1990. She then continued her impactful work with the Child Team for Mental Health in Anderson, Indiana, serving from 1990 until 1996. In the subsequent years, she entered private practice in Fishers, Indiana, and simultaneously worked as the psychiatrist at Pleasant Run Children's Home, a historic orphanage in Indianapolis.
For nearly seven years, she practiced privately in Anderson, Indiana. During this period, she also fulfilled roles as the adolescent psychiatrist at both Northeast Juvenile Correctional Facility and Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility. Moreover, she lent her expertise as the psychiatric consulting physician at Fortville Christian Youth Home.
Her career also included private practice in Indianapolis, positions at the Counseling Center Christian Theological Seminary, and the Family Counseling Center. She worked as a consulting adolescent psychiatrist at Richmond State Hospital and collaborated with the Medical Staff at Community Hospitals of Indianapolis. Additionally, she served as a consultant at the Boys and Girls Home of Alaska. She was part of the medical team at North Star Hospital in Anchorage, aiding in the development of psychiatric telemedicine services through the Four County Counseling Center in Peru, Kokomo, and Logansport, Indiana.
Her notable professional activities included consulting with the Department of Mental Health to develop a system of coordinated care involving the Department of Education and the Department of Families and Children; consulting at the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center; and participating in the Conscience Development Research and Study Group and a Trauma and Dissociation study group.
She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Hanover College with a B.A., majoring in Chemistry with minors in Biology and Psychology, and received the "Long Citation for Outstanding Senior Woman." Her medical training was completed at the Indiana University School of Medicine, where she engaged in a year of research and received the Academic Medicine Achievement Award. She completed her residencies and fellowship at the Indiana University School of Medicine, earning the Golden Apple Award in 1990 for her significant contributions to medical education.
Before retiring, she was licensed in Indiana and Alaska and certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Since June 1991, Jill Abram has been an active member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, contributing to advancements in her field through both practice and research.
