Not every career follows a straight line, and Marissa Haugh's path has been diverse and purposeful. From working in classrooms and hospitals to running her fitness and nutrition practice, she has continually found ways to apply her knowledge and experience to serve others. Her story is about learning, adaptability, and a constant dedication to improving lives through education, health, and personal support.
Her academic achievements demonstrate her drive for knowledge. After graduating high school, Marissa attended the University of Rhode Island, where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies. This degree gave her a comprehensive understanding of human development across the lifespan, with particular attention to family and social relationships. In 2001, she added a Certificate in Fine Arts and Foundation from Parsons’ School of Design, blending creativity with her studies. Two years later, in 2003, she earned a Master of Science in Child Life from Bank Street College, equipping her with the skills to support children and families through medical challenges.
Even before completing her advanced degrees, Marissa was gaining practical experience. She worked as a daycare leader and became a caseworker with Talbot Perkins Children’s Services, a Brooklyn nonprofit specializing in adoption and foster care. She later served as Lead Camp Counselor at Epiphany Nursery School Camp, where she created art and cooking projects while managing classroom activities. These early positions gave her valuable experience in child development and strengthened her ability to work with families in various situations.
In 1998, Marissa took on the role of Head Teacher at Trevor Day School in New York City. She helped guide classroom management, assessed student needs, and adapted teaching strategies to ensure children received the proper support. After completing her graduate degree, she entered the healthcare field. At Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York, she became a Child Life Specialist, working in pediatric units. She supported children facing illnesses such as cancer, asthma, cystic fibrosis, HIV/AIDS, and organ transplants. Her role included providing therapeutic interventions and emotional support for patients and families during hospitalization and treatment.
Her next professional chapter was at Monmouth Medical Center in New Jersey, where she worked as an Early Intervention Developmental Specialist. In this position, she assessed infants and toddlers with developmental delays and designed family-centered intervention strategies. Her work reflected compassion and expertise, helping young children and their families navigate critical early years. Since 2001, Marissa has also been an active member of the Child Life Council, staying connected to the broader child development community.
2017 she added another dimension to her career by earning a Certificate in Fitness and Nutrition from the Academy of Sports Medicine. With this training, she founded FIT, FULL, AND FOCUSED, her own practice in Oceanport, New Jersey. As a fitness and nutrition coach, she develops personalized plans tailored to each client’s health conditions, eating habits, and fitness goals. She emphasizes education, guiding clients on nutrition science, food preparation, and long-term health strategies. Her coaching goes beyond short-term changes, focusing instead on sustainable improvements.
Marissa’s personal involvement in fitness adds depth to her professional practice. She has participated in CrossFit competitions, completed marathons, and challenged herself in endurance events like Tough Mudder and Spartan races. These experiences give her a practical understanding of training and commitment, which she shares with her clients.
Through every stage of her journey, Marissa Haugh has shown consistency in her mission to help others. Whether in classrooms, hospitals, or through her business, she has used her knowledge and skills to impact positively. Her life reflects the power of education, persistence, and service in creating lasting change for individuals and families.
