Power Plant Systems Technician, IC&E Technician, and Power Plant Operator
Michael Gastinel is a power generation technician with nearly ten years of experience in utility-scale energy operations. Based in Granbury, Texas, he specializes in plant systems, instrumentation and controls, and turbine operations. His technical background includes work with GE 7FA and 7EA turbines and DCS platforms such as GE Mark VI and Emerson Ovation. He is also experienced in emissions compliance systems. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology and is proud to mentor colleagues, improve plant reliability, and support consistent operational performance.
He was born and raised in Granbury, Texas, as the youngest of three siblings in a family that valued hard work and service. His early years were shaped by school, church, and Scouts, where he developed discipline and leadership skills. Regular attendance at Catholic Mass and active participation in the Boy Scouts of America helped him form a strong sense of responsibility, leading to achieving the Eagle Scout rank in 2008.
After graduating from Granbury High School in 2008, Michael Victor Gastinel took a year off to gain hands-on experience as a sheet metal mechanic. When the Great Recession caused widespread layoffs, he viewed it as an opportunity to further his education. He began studying Computer Science, but later realized his genuine interest was in applied electronics and electrical systems, which led him to pursue Electrical Engineering Technology. Balancing part-time jobs and coursework, he earned his degree from The University of Toledo in 2015.
After graduation, he joined Troy Energy, LLC in Ohio, as a Combustion Turbine Specialist. His duties included turbine operations, calibrations, troubleshooting, and managing emissions data. He also handled NERC compliance reporting, maintained CEMS and GADS systems, trained new employees, and contributed to a successful NERC audit.
In 2022, he returned to Texas to join Luminant Generation Company, LLC, first at the Forney Plant and later transferring to the DeCordova Power Plant in his hometown. His responsibilities expanded to include GE turbine operations, DCS troubleshooting, and battery energy storage systems. He also served as the Behavior-Based Safety Champion, helping strengthen the safety culture and team collaboration.
Michael Gastinel enjoys cars, electronics, golf, and spending time with family outside work. His Catholic faith plays a vital role in his life, and he remains active in his community while pursuing growth in his career and personal life.
