Athlete Advocacy and Athlete Platforms
For many years, college athletes were prevented from profiting from their names, images, and likenesses—a restriction that kept them from capitalizing on their growing influence and fan support. This began to change after extensive advocacy and litigation, culminating in a landmark NCAA policy revision in 2021 that allowed student-athletes to earn income from NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) activities. In 2025, the NCAA introduced further reforms, including permitting athletes to negotiate NIL deals even before enrolling at a college or university. Amid this shifting landscape, two college athletes and a passionate sports fan recognized the need for a platform where all athletes—not just top stars—could benefit from their NIL rights. In 2020, they founded YOKE, the technology company behind the NIL Club, with the vision of empowering student-athletes to engage with fans and build their brands from the ground up. YOKE’s mission was clear: to make NIL opportunities accessible to every student-athlete, regardless of their sport or level of recognition, and help them connect with supporters on a deeper level. The NIL Club app, born from this vision, quickly evolved into a leading platform for student-athletes at both the college and high school levels. It provides a structured and secure platform for athletes to establish their brands, generate income, and engage with fans. Today, NIL Club supports more than 20,000 groups and teams, has 250,000 student participants, and has facilitated over $16 million in earnings for athletes. Fans participate by subscribing to their favorite teams’ NIL Clubs—whether it’s Alabama Football, USC Women’s Basketball, or countless others—paying a monthly fee that provides ongoing, exclusive access to content and updates from athletes. These memberships can be cancelled at any time, making the relationship flexible for supporters. The revenue generated is distributed equally among all active team members, ensuring a fair and transparent model where every participating athlete receives a reward. The NIL Club platform is athlete-driven and self-governed, allowing team members to oversee participation and ensure everyone contributes to the club. Fans enjoy behind-the-scenes content, from daily routines to game recaps, as well as special shoutouts and holiday greetings. This authentic, unfiltered interaction fosters a unique connection between athletes and supporters that traditional social media cannot replicate. NIL Club’s reach now extends to high school students, following careful legal review of state regulations and with parental involvement for minors. The platform welcomes not only athletes but also students involved in music, theater, and other extracurricular activities, providing them with a head start in financial literacy and entrepreneurship. Since mid-2025, NIL Club has also opened its doors to brand partnerships, enabling companies to work directly with student-athletes for marketing and promotional campaigns. Through NIL Club, a new generation of students can monetize their skills, share their journeys, and build valuable connections with fans and brands alike.
