Attorney Rawsi Williams, Esq., R.N., is a Florida-based civil rights attorney, registered nurse, and United States Army veteran. She is among the few professionals licensed in both nursing and law, dedicating her career to defending civil and constitutional rights. Her practice spans federal, state, and administrative cases, covering areas such as civil rights, education, employment, healthcare, and government accountability. She is nationally recognized for achieving a $2 million unanimous jury verdict in a federal excessive force case, the highest pure police brutality verdict in that court system. She is also one of only four attorneys in four decades to defeat the Florida High School Athletic Association on behalf of a student-athlete.
Rawsi is one of five siblings, with four daughters and one son in the family. Her brother’s incarceration became a turning point in her life, motivating her to pursue law to give a voice to those silenced by injustice. Later, he suffered police brutality in Texas when officers repeatedly tased him inside an ambulance after a seizure. A Judge found the arrest lacked probable cause after he was dragged out of the ambulance, and she secured him legal representation in Texas, leading to a federal lawsuit against the officers involved.
Before pursuing a career in law, she served in the United States Army and began her career as a nurse. She studied at Tuskegee University, where she became the first female Ranger in the school’s Army ROTC program. She later earned her Juris Doctor degree from Florida A&M University College of Law and also received specialized military training in medical records. Alongside her legal practice, she holds multiple certifications and is regularly invited to speak at national events.
Rawsi is licensed in all Florida state courts and several federal jurisdictions, with additional admissions pro hac vice in Texas and Georgia. Her cases have included civil rights litigation, constitutional violations, employment matters, and administrative defense, with clients ranging from individuals to major institutions. Her nursing background also allows her to represent healthcare professionals in licensure disputes.
Her commitment to service extends to her volunteer work, where she has represented indigent clients pro bono for more than a decade with the Miami-Dade County Public Defender’s Office, maintaining an undefeated record. Through her dedication to justice, advocacy, and community service, Attorney Rawsi Williams remains a tireless defender of rights.
