Cagle's life partner, Donna, has been his wife for over three decades. The couple has raised a son together and has navigated life's phases as a tight-knit family. They lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado, from 1999 but ultimately returned to Plano, Texas, in 2017, where they have made their permanent home. His career trajectory began at Kinlaw Oil Corporation in 1986, where he was initially drawn to the oil industry. In 1996, propelled by a vision to create his path, Reed left Kinlaw to establish his venture in Dallas, Texas. By the following year, he had founded Heartland Energy Inc., later known as HEI, where he served as president and CEO. His activities also extended to Chile, where he significantly contributed to the financial management and daily operations of a gold and copper processing facility in Copiapo. There, Reed developed a revolutionary process for detoxifying and refining metals, which markedly enhanced the environmental safety of mining operations.
