Master Thesis: The study of Avalanche Photodiode Design for Silicon.
This thesis investigates the design of silicon avalanche photodiodes (APDs) through meticulous analysis and simulation-based research. By developing sophisticated simulation models, it explores fundamental principles, such as avalanche breakdown behavior, impact ionization dynamics and carrier multiplication processes, to optimize device performance. Insights gained inform APD structure design, enhancing key metrics like gain and responsivity. This work contributes to advancing silicon APD technology for applications in high-speed communication, lidar sensors, and photon counting detectors.
