Thomas Pepin, better known as Tom Pepin, is a Tampa Bay business leader and philanthropist whose work has influenced education, healthcare, commerce, and public safety across the region for more than 4 decades, and who served as the Former President and CEO of Pepin Distributing Company. Throughout his career, he focused on building a successful enterprise while also supporting organizations that strengthen the Tampa Bay community. Tom Pepin returned to Florida after graduating from Middlebury College in Vermont. After completing his studies, he joined the family business and began working at Pepin Distributing Company. In 1986, he purchased the company from his father and began leading its next phase of development. Under his leadership, the company grew into one of Florida’s major beverage distribution operations. Over time, the organization expanded into a business valued at approximately $260 million. It served as a key distributor for major beverage manufacturers and developed a reputation for disciplined operations and reliable partnerships across the region. A clear example of this commitment is the T. Pepin Hospitality Center. Tom created the facility to give nonprofit organizations access to a high-quality event venue for fundraising and community gatherings. Many charitable groups often face challenges when securing affordable venues for events. The center was designed to remove that barrier and provide nonprofit organizations with a professional space at a reasonable cost. Education has also been a central part of his community involvement. When several families approached him about students struggling in traditional school environments, Thomas's family helped support the creation of Pepin Academies. These public charter schools were designed to serve students with specific learning disabilities, including dyslexia and ADHD. Established more than twenty-five years ago, Pepin Academies has helped thousands of students through individualized education programs. The school focuses on building confidence, accountability, and life skills while providing a structured learning environment. Over time, they have become widely respected for their specialized educational approach. Healthcare is another area where he has made an important contribution. Through the Pepin Heart Institute, Tom supported cardiovascular research, patient care, and public education related to heart health. These initiatives work alongside major healthcare institutions in the region to improve treatment and awareness. His efforts in this field earned him recognition as Healthcare Philanthropist of the Year. Public safety has also remained a priority. Thomas has supported programs connected with the Tampa Police Department Chief's Foundation and other law enforcement initiatives. These efforts focus on officer wellness, family support, and community engagement. His commitment to supporting law enforcement was recognized when he received the Tampa Police Department Citizen of the Year award and was named the twentieth Lightning Community Hero. After selling Pepin Distributing Company, Tom moved into a new stage of leadership focused on stewardship and long-term planning. To guide this work, he established Tapper Ventures and the Pepin Family Office. These organizations provide oversight of investments, philanthropic coordination, and strategic decision-making related to family initiatives. Tom's work has received recognition from several public institutions. In 2017, he was inducted into the Business Hall of Fame for his leadership and civic involvement. The Florida Senate has also acknowledged his contributions to community service on multiple occasions. The Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners honored him for decades of civic commitment. In 2023, Temple Park was renamed in recognition of the Pepin family’s contributions to the community.
