CW Cambridge Wireless Ltd

The UK Spectrum Policy Forum was setup as the cross-industry sounding board to Government and Ofcom on future spectrum management and regulatory policy with a view to maximising the benefits of spectrum for the UK.

I worked on three different programmes namely; Communications Infrastructure, Satellite Applications & Services and UK Spectrum Policy Forum. In addition, I was also appointed as an CTO Council Leader. Key responsibilities for each programme is detailed as follows : Communications Infrastructure : Liaising with member companies involved across the communications industry value chain to act as the voice of the communications industry in order to provide a consolidated, cross-industry view on important market aspects and Government policy and Ofcom regulatory proposals. My areas of focus include 5G, superfast broadband, IoT, connected homes and smart cities. Satellite Applications & Services programme : Working with the satellite industry, I am looking at applications and solutions for satellite broadband and connectivity, Global Navigation Satellite System GNSS and innovation using Earth Observation EO satellites for smart cities of the future. UK Spectrum Policy Forum SPF : See below CTO council : I work with other CTOs' to understand the emerging technologies, the role they will play in the future and how it can affect their business. We also assess the skills gap that may arise in the future and how to prepare the next generation to have the correct skills for the required jobs. In each of the above, I help develop, implement and manage projects, white papers, workshops, and events that will have positive effects on policy and business outcomes as it relates to our members' chosen issues. I work closely and support other relevant techUK councils and groups, maintaining liaison with group members to identify and exploit cross-fertilisation opportunities between other programmes within techUK.

Since the inception of EXplanoTech, I have been the face of the company. Supported by an able team, my management duties are very limited. This gives me an opportunity to be an all-round individual. My work is divided into the following four functions : 1. Company Management : I oversee the day to day running of the company, interviews and hiring process, appraisals and annual reviews, policies and decision making process, business development and contract negotiations, chairing meetings and help formulate business strategies, etc. 2. Head of Training Department : This has been the main area of my focus this year. My extensive technical knowledge of 3GPP specifications and current market trends is crucial in deciding which technology areas we should focus on and prepare trainings for. I actively participate in the development and preparation of the training material, occasionally also helping deliver courses, running workshops, etc. 3. Technical Project Management : This was my main responsibility until the last year; feasibility and planning for internal and client projects, recruiting the right technical resources, ensuring deliveries meet KPI's, deadlines and customers' expectations. Projects ranged from a single person project to mid - sized projects. I am still hands on with programming and spend between 10-20 hours a week doing C++ programming. 4. other Networking and Social activities : In order to market EXplanoTechs name and capabilities, I regularly participate as a speaker/analyst/panellist in international conferences. Participation in conferences help me understand the big picture and technology trends that get fed back to the company and our clients and help formulate the technology strategy for the future. I have been active on Twitter and LinkedIn for the last many years, marketing our brand and at the same time discussing technologies and other technical news.

Looking at exploring R&D opportunities including simulations and experimental case studies for 5G and beyond 4G. We are very flexible on topics and would welcome interesting in joining or contributing to this exciting project. Looking at future funding opportunities is on our agenda including 5GPPP, H2020 calls, TSB etc.
