Đơn xin việc (cover letter) là một tài liệu bổ sung cho CV được gửi tới nhà tuyển dụng. Nhưng khác với CV, đơn xin việc sẽ là nơi bạn có thể trình bày và thể hiện những thông tin cụ thể vì sao bạn lựa chọn công việc cũng như là công ty đó. Điều quan trọng là một lá thư xin việc chuyên nghiệp có thể sẽ quyết định việc nhà tuyển dụng có muốn đọc hồ sơ xin việc của bạn hay không.
Tất nhiên đơn xin việc tiếng Anh sẽ phải đi kèm CV tiếng Anh. Thông thường, khi bạn apply vào những công ty có quy mô quốc tế, nhà tuyển dụng sẽ yêu cầu bạn gửi thư xin việc bằng tiếng Anh. Đơn xin việc bằng tiếng Anh cũng sẽ bắt đầu bằng lời chào hỏi nhà tuyển dụng và song song đó bạn sẽ giới thiệu về bản thân và lý do vì sao bạn viết bức thư này. Độ dài phù hợp cho lời giới thiệu sẽ là một đoạn ngắn tầm 3-4 dòng với 3 ý như sau:

Để tránh nhà tuyển dụng hiểu nhầm ý của bạn, khi viết cover letter bằng tiếng Anh, bạn nên sử dụng những câu văn đơn giản và rõ nghĩa. Lưu ý là không nên dùng những từ lóng hay từ ngữ chỉ dùng trong văn nói nhé!
Bạn có thể dùng action verb (những động từ mạnh mang tính tích cực) để đơn xin việc trở nên súc tích và thể hiện bản thân bạn tốt hơn.
Không giống như CV là chỉ liệt kê vắn tắt những thông tin theo từng ý. Đơn xin việc sẽ là nơi bạn có thể trình bày rõ hơn những nguyện vọng và mục tiêu nghề nghiệp của bạn, cũng như lý do bạn apply vào vị trí này. Việc nghiên cứu kỹ càng về công ty sẽ giúp bạn biết được bản thân có thể mang lại giá trị gì, nắm được điểm mấu chốt để dễ dàng chinh phục nhà tuyển dụng thông qua lá đơn xin việc bằng tiếng Anh của mình.
Một điều cực kì quan trọng bạn cần lưu ý, đó là: tuyệt đối không nên copy-paste và gửi cùng một bản cover letter tiếng Anh đến nhiều vị trí trong cùng một lúc. Nhà tuyển dụng sẽ đánh giá bạn không dành nhiều thời gian và tâm sức vào quá trình ứng tuyển, chưa kể bạn có thể viết nhầm thông tin liên lạc của người nhận thì "ố dề" lắm đấy!
Thư ứng tuyển tiếng Anh đóng vai trò là một tài liệu phụ đi kèm với CV trong hồ sơ xin việc, nên sẽ không có một nhà tuyển dụng nào muốn đọc một lá đơn dài quá 2 trang giấy. Do đó, độ dài lý tưởng cho đơn xin việc tiếng Anh sẽ trong khoảng 150-250 từ, hoặc đơn giản hơn là chỉ trong 1 trang giấy.
Vì đây là thư ứng tuyển bằng tiếng Anh, nên việc bạn viết đúng ngữ pháp và chỉnh tả là vô cùng quan trọng, đặc biệt là đối với các ngành nghề hoặc môi trường làm việc có yêu cầu sử dụng ngôn ngữ này thường xuyên.
