Scrum 是一種敏捷開發的管理架構。Scrum 的執行方式讓軟體開發團隊可以在短時間內不斷重新回顧與修正產品開發的成果及瓶頸,快速更新迭代,成為深受軟體開發團隊常用的管理架構。 本文將說明 Scrum 的架構、如何導入軟體產品開發過程,以及市面上採用 Scrum 架構的專案管理工具及模板。 文章大綱一、Scrum 管理架構是什麼?為什麼軟體產品開發愛用 Scrum?二、典型 Scrum 框架長什麼樣?Sprint 衝刺流程又是什麼?三、Scrum 角色分工包含哪些?四、Scrum 適合哪種團隊?有哪些好用的專案管理工具? 一、Scrum 管理架構是什麼?為什麼軟體產品開發愛用 Scrum? 為了迎合快速變動以及需求多變的市場,許多軟體產品團隊都會使用敏捷開發(agile)的精神來進行產品設計、開發、及後續服務,而 Scrum 便是敏捷開發中最常用的管理架構之一。 Scrum 一詞起源自橄欖球隊的術語 Scrummage,在中斷的比賽要重新開始時,球員們會肩並肩靠在一起爭球,並在爭到球後以團隊共同前進的方式,逐步接力傳球並即時變換進攻戰術,帶球衝破敵方陣線。 若將此概念套用在產品開發上,亦即開發團隊可透過 Scrum 以高靈活的合作方式相互配合,並適時中斷開發進度,將開發時程切成數個短期衝刺階段,並在每次衝刺前重新檢視並修正產品開發方向,以提高新產品的開發速度與靈活度,最終達成產品的開發與交付。 提出 Scrum 管理架構的 Ken Schwaber 為推廣這個概念,創立了 Scrum.org,提供 Scrum 架構的訓練課程以及證照考核平台,並且建立了使用者社群,讓全球各地的軟體產品開發團隊可以互相交流,尋求更有效率、更自由的產品開發模式。 Scrum 的應用領域隨著時間的推移,也逐漸擴大到不同的產業領域裡。除了 Google、Spotify、Adobe 等國際知名科技公司都引用了 Scrum 的概念推出自己的敏捷開發工具;2015 年,國泰航空為導入網路訂票系統,便是透過 Scrum 的架構,從原本三個月推出一個新功能,成功加速到一個月可以推出 2 - 3 個新功能。此外,擁有廣大台灣用戶群的台新數位銀行 Richart,也是利用 Scrum 架構而誕生的 App。 二、典型 Scrum 框架長什麼樣?Sprint 衝刺流程又是什麼? 前面我們已了解 Scrum 的功能以及使用目的,那麼Scrum 的實際運作流程是如何呢? 典型 Scrum 框架涵蓋一系列的完整產品開發流程,從待辦清單、衝刺規劃和執行、每日站立會議、到檢視及回顧等。 如前面所提 Scrum 會將產品開發流程切成數個「短期衝刺」的階段,並且目標在每次的短期衝刺中達到最高的效率與成果,就成為一次產品「迭代」。每個短期衝刺,可以分成以下數個項目: Scrum 流程項目執行方式衝刺待辦清單(Product Backlog / Sprint Backlog)產品負責人會依據市場、客戶等來源取得產品回饋、競品分析等資料,列出衝刺待辦事項清單,並且從搜集來的資訊評估各個項目的重要性,決定團隊的待辦順序衝刺規劃(Sprint Planninig)在每次短期衝刺開始時,團隊會召開短期衝刺規劃會議,共同決定團隊目標、待辦事項以及對應的負責團隊衝刺活動(Sprint Implementation)團隊會依據待辦事項以及衝刺規劃會議中決議的團隊目標,進行為期 2 週左右的衝刺活動(視團隊及產品開發需求)每日站立會議(Daily Standups)在這 2 週期間,團隊在每天開始時會進行 15 分鐘的快速站立會議,已追蹤團隊個成員的工作進度,並針對工作上遇到的瓶頸進行討論與排除衝刺檢視(Sprint Review)在短期衝刺的最後一天,團隊會召開會議檢視本次衝刺的「產品成果」衝刺回顧(Sprint Retro)在短期衝刺結束後,團隊會針對本次短期衝刺中的「流程」面向進行討論及修正,並且將成功經驗待到下一次的短期衝刺中增量(Increment)每次的短期衝刺中所達成的產品成果,就是「產品增量」,可以是產品推出、新功能、功能 debug 等 三、Scrum 角色分工包含哪些? 要確實執行 Scrum 管理架構,團隊必須有以下三個重要角色: Scrum 角色職責說明Scrum 主持人(Scrum MasterScrum 主持人為舉辦各式 Scrum 活動的角色,包含衝刺規劃會議、每天的站立會議、衝刺檢視及回顧,確保會議討論順利進行Scrum 產品負責人(Product Owner)產品負責人代表市場、客戶,確保開發團隊的成果能符合客戶需求,在衝刺前會列出待辦事項並決定先後順序;在衝刺結束後,產品負責人則會決定產品是否可以推出 / 出貨Scrum 開發團隊(Development Team)開發團隊則代表參與短期衝刺活動的所有人,必須建立共同衝刺目標,並且積極合作配合,以確保衝刺活動的成功執行;在衝刺結束後,也需積極提出衝刺活動的反饋,持續共同改善產品開發以及衝刺流程 四、Scrum 適合哪種團隊?有哪些好用的專案管理工具? 在本集的《科技職涯》中,我們邀請了目前在美國 PayPal 擔任 Senior Product Manager 的 Nicolas,來跟我們分享這 15 年的職涯經驗。Nicolas 在中央大學數學系畢業後繼續唸了交通大學的資工所,拿到碩士學位後加入了 IC 設計公司 Sunplus。在半導體產業的四年多的時間,Nicolas 接觸了很多軟體公司的專案,包括當時正在興起 Google、騰訊等,進而發現自己對軟體產業的興趣。接著,Nicolas 先是到台灣 Yahoo 擔任軟體工程師,後來因為專注在 Scrum Master、Team Lead 等有管理職能的角色,Nicolas 又挖掘到自己對商業的興趣,所以前往美國念 MBA。商學院畢業後,Nicolas 進了 Facebook 擔任 Data Scientist,而後因為想要嘗試新的東西,再次轉換到 VISA 擔任 Product Manager。經歷豐富但卻不走直線的 Nicolas,跨領域、跨產業、跨職能,三種完全不同專業的學歷,從半導體產業工程師、軟體產品工程師、Data Engineer、Data Scientist 到 Product Manager,從台灣到美國,充滿挑戰跟變化的職涯選擇背後的思考是什麼?如果你也好奇他豐富的職涯歷程,推薦你本集的《科技職涯》!Podcast 各節摘要01:30 請 Nicolas 簡介自己的經歷與背景04:20 在職涯中的三個重大轉換時,Nicolas 通常都從哪些面向做考量?06:10 所有的轉換中,最困難的是哪一個?08:10 何時開始想要出國唸書的想法?09:50 哪段工作經驗對 Nicolas 的影響最大?每段經驗最大的收穫是什麼?(Sunplus、Yahoo、Facebook)17:10 PayPal 帶給 Nicolas 的累積是什麼?19:25 Nicolas 是因為什麼契機把優先處理「重要且緊急」的做法轉換成「重要但不緊急」?23:00 如何成為更好的資料科學人才?30:35 如何成為更好的 Product Manager?35:20 為什麼 Nicolas 覺得「四十歲仍然覺得很疑惑」?41:05 Nicolas 在生活中放下、掬起的分別是什麼?現在還保留著的興趣有什麼?44:45 Nicolas 一直以來堅信的價值觀是什麼?Nicolas 的三大轉換 — 半導體 → 軟體業、工程師 → PM、台灣 → 美國 從一開始擔任 IC 設計公司的工程師到如今在軟體產業擔任產品經理,看似有點跳躍的職涯轉換,循序漸進的每一步其實都有其邏輯。舉例來說,雖然 IC 設計公司的待遇不錯、軟體公司當時在台灣還只是剛起步,但是因爲想要做可以直接被用戶使用、即時得到回饋的產品,Nicolas 做出了非主流的選擇,轉職到軟體產業。從工程師轉為 PM,現在看來不算是少數的選擇,但從 Nicolas 個人的職涯歷程 — 產品工程師 → 資料工程師 → 資料科學家 → 資料 PM 來看,也不是個一蹴而幾的過程,而是透過不斷反思自己的能力和興趣,所做出的逐步調整跟選擇。 最需要勇氣的選擇 — 出國念 MBA 談起生涯中的三大轉換,每個轉換都會替 Nicolas 引來很多好奇和問題,但他花最多勇氣下定決心的轉換,是花光所有積蓄到美國唸 MBA。當時工程師念 MBA 不算是主流的選擇,Nicolas 自己遇過的 MBA 學生中擁有工程背景的人比例不超過兩成,當然,一個 MBA 學位所費不貲,也是他猶豫的原因。一直都打算出國唸書的 Nicolas,即便開始工作也沒有放棄這個念頭。他不斷在思考出國的目標會是什麼?他要如何達成這個目標?是要念 PhD、工程碩士還是商學院呢?確認自己的興趣在軟體領域的 Nicolas,想像外商公司應有背景相關、多元的同事可以幫助他回答這些問題,因此他開始把求職方向鎖定在外商,不僅是基於職涯考量,也是為了幫助自己做出人生的大決定。 從半導體工程師到軟體業產品經理的職涯 轉換維度不小的 Nicolas,認為影響職涯發展至關重要的作為是「找到自己的興趣跟 passion」。就算是要轉換領域,也可以因為擁有強烈的動機,能夠說服新的企業、主管自己可以結合過去的經驗,幫助團隊建立新的能力。每份工作擔任的角色不同、當時累積的閱歷和能力也都不同。回頭來看自己的職涯,Nicolas 無法直接點名哪個階段對他的影響最大,因為每份經歷都帶給他重要的收穫。 第一份工作 @ Sunplus — 對待工作的職人精神 IC 設計公司 Sunplus 是 Nicolas 資工所畢業後待的第一間公司,對於形塑他的工作心態有很大的影響。「對你嚴厲的人反而是對未來最有幫助的人。」他回憶當時有個主管非常嚴格,幾乎每個同事都怕他。但是 Nicolas 後來回想,主管嚴格的要求其實幫助他建立很多扎實的基礎和概念,對於一位新鮮人來說是非常珍貴的。 Yahoo — 短時間內建立不同領域的專業技能 Nicolas 在 Yahoo 時負責的是電子商務的相關產品,包括購物中心、商城、拍賣等等。當年電商詐騙的案子頻傳,Yahoo 內部為此成立專案小組,因為資源有限卻需要解決一個很大的問題,Nicolas 必須根據專案需求轉換自己的角色,前後經歷了產品工程師、資料工程師、Scrum Master 等不同的職位,對於他來說就好像創業的過程一樣挑戰多元。如何在短時間內 catch up 不同的技能?就算不能成為做到專精,如何把自己的能力拉到至少 80 分、可以解決大部分的問題?這個快速迭代的過程,讓 Nicolas 累積的不僅是專業技能,還有軟體產業敏捷的開發文化。 Facebook — Accountability(當責) 雖然在台灣就已經待過外商,但是直到在美國加入 Facebook 後,Nicolas 才感受到何謂真正的外商文化,在這之中他體認到最重要的態度就是 Accountability(當責)。什麼是 Accountability?就是事情無論大小無關責任歸屬,只要是你的角色可以幫上忙的地方,都需要賦予關注。以 Nicolas 自己的角色 Data Scientist 為例,他需要積極地去了解他的 stakeholders、partners 遇到的問題,這些問題可能是商業面的,他需要把商業的問題轉成資料科學可以解決的「技術問題」,接著實作、驗證、然後取得回饋,反覆進行這個流程,直到問題被順利解決。也就是說,雖然職稱是 Data Scientist,但是整個專案都是 Nicolas end-to-end 的責任,嚴格上來說便是肩負著資料科學家 PM 這樣多元的角色組合。與亞洲偏向「接任務」的型態不同,在 Facebook 的經驗,讓 Nicolas 體認到不能等著別人幫你定義問題,工作也不再是只有執行,需要負責全部的流程跟自身的 performance。 Paypal — 從戰略到策略的觀點轉換 相信大家都同意,能夠判斷輕重緩急、安排工作的優先順序是很重要的能力。Nicolas 自己的做法是結合緊急與否 重要與否劃分成四個象限,優先處理「重要且緊急」的事情,原先他相信這樣的做法可以很直接地顯示自己的價值與影響力,是一種個人職涯的「戰略」。但是加入 Paypal 後,隨著角色的眼界變高,無論是前輩的經驗分享或是自己的親身體驗,都讓他體會到永遠救火是不行的。完成重要且緊急的事情當然會有成就感,但如果每天都處於這樣高壓的狀態難免會筋疲力竭,所以 Nicolas 就開始思考是否有方法可以避免、減少這樣的狀況?如果每天都在救火的話,是否代表防火的機制有問題?與主管和 Mentor 交流後,Nicolas 的 mindset 有了很大的轉變,他應該要多關注「重要但不緊急的事」,藉由妥善的事前規劃、在合適的時間點執行,避免讓這些事情變得重要而且緊急,也就是所謂的「策略」。這樣的做事方式可以避免不必要的成本,也可以避免過多重要且緊急的事情讓公司置於風險中。經驗豐富的 Nicolas,有哪些多元的職涯歷程?來看看 Nicolas 完整的 Cake! 如果你也喜歡 Nicolas 的 Profile,歡迎使用 Cake 製作獨一無二的履歷 🙌🏻 資料科學家 產品經理技能樹 在資料科學和 Product Manager 都有很豐富經驗的 Nicolas,也跟我們分享這兩個角色的重要技能! 資料科學家必備技能 統計知識:此為最基本的要求,而 Machine Learning、Deep Learning、Neural Network 被視為傳統統計的延伸,因此相關的演算法能力也被分為此類。程式語言:SQL 是必備的程式能力、Python 和 R 需要至少擇一具備,而一些較特殊的 Database 技術則端看產業或公司的需求。可視化圖表(Visualization):由於多數人仰賴圖像式學習,所以,若一位資料科學家能妥善地將數據模型結果透過可視化的圖表呈現,而非交付艱澀難讀的數據結果,以協助共事夥伴快速理解數據背後的洞見,才算是真正地發揮了資料科學家的專業價值。 溝通能力有多重要?Nicolas 在 Facebook 的跨領域合作經驗 承接Visualization 及前面提到的 Accountability,Nicolas 以他在 Facebook 的專案合作經驗為例,來分享溝通能力的重要性。Nicolas 在 Facebook 時所在的組織是 Infrastructure 的 Operations Strategy Team,是負責 Facebook 本身的業務擴張、基礎建設等需求的組織,其中,有個團隊便是由具備二、三十年商業地產經驗的地產專家組成,他們過往經手的單件地產價值往往高達百萬甚至是千萬美金,而這類地產專家在 Facebook 的主要工作內容便是協助其評估與購入建設資料中心(Data Center)的地點。Nicolas 加入之時,Facebook 正在急劇擴張的階段,為數不多的地產專家每天要評估數百個資料中心潛在地產標的,人力完全無法負荷,身為資料科學家的 Nicolas 便在此時加入專案,以AI、機器學習等資料科學專業來協助這些地產專家們解決問題。當然,以 Nicolas 的背景而言,他不可能和這些專家一樣具備相同的地產專業知識,不過他仍然需要快速了解對方在做出地產決策時遭遇的挑戰與諸多考量,設法量化成資料科學能解決的問題、找到適合的演算法去處理,因此,在整個專案的過程中,Nicolas 其實花了將近 80% 的時間在溝通。這跟在學校的經驗是完全不一樣的,因為被教授拋出的問題通常都已經被定義清楚,學生只需要順著邏輯去解決,但是在職場的實際情況中,很多時候連需要你幫忙的人自己或許都不太清楚問題是什麼,此時就相當仰賴資料科學家與夥伴們大量的溝通以釐清問題、定義問題並解決問題。除了前期的溝通以外,Nicolas 也重申了 Visualization 的重要性。產出資料模型和相應結果後,如果協作的夥伴無法辦法理解並運用這些模型,其實等於是沒有產出。Nicolas 也坦言,他時常看見其他專案因為 stakeholders 無法理解艱澀的數據圖表,該資料科學家負責的專案便無疾而終。因此,在這個與地產經紀人合作的例子中,Nicolas 運用的做法為「設計一個以地圖為主的使用者介面」,地產專家只要在 excel 輸入需要的條件,資料庫就能根據這些限制和假設,列出 Top 5 的地產物件在地圖上,並且同步附上原因。如此一來,地產專家就能直接應用資料科學家的產出,增進決策的精準度與效率。這樣的做法完整體現了 Accountability 的心態,資料科學家不僅是完成了自己的專業技術產出,也妥當地將合作對象的痛點與需求考慮進去,確實地幫助對方解決問題,這樣的合作效率跟體驗和單純地交付數據是截然不同的。 產品經理必備硬實力與軟實力 由於 PM 需要和工程師、設計師等夥伴密切合作,因此建議涉略相關的知識,例如:Tech:不用親自 Coding,但要能理解技術的基本概念。Business:理解商業問題並設計解決方法。Design:就算只有 1% 的使用體驗優化也能讓產品升級到不同的層次,Apple 就是最好的例子,這也同步包括了一位 PM 對於產品的好奇心、熱忱,還有能夠站在使用者角度思考的同理心。軟實力的部分,則是所有工作都必備、對於 PM 來說更是關鍵的溝通能力,以及軟體產業非常重視的 data-driven 心態,要能夠利用 data 去引導大家溝通、討論出解決方法。在管理面的技能,Nicolas 也提出了三個面向: 區分輕重緩急的能力:身為專案與產品的掌舵者,產品經理需要帶領團隊專注在真正重要、可以產生最大效益的事項。影響力:很多人都會說 PM 是 mini CEO,Nicolas 自己則是不太贊成這個說法。雖然處理的事情複雜度有得比,但是 PM 沒有增加預算的彈性、也沒有人事調動的權力,基本上所有的合作對象都是平等的,需要因人而異去調整做事的方法、對每個團隊成員產生影響力。向上管理:很多時候 PM 再往上一、兩階就是 C-level,可以說是距離核心決策者很近的角色,也常有接觸共事的機會。如何有效率且直接的溝通、只提供對方需要的關鍵資訊,這種跟主管共事的能力也很重要。Nicolas 目前在 PayPal 擔任資深產品經理,負責 Merchant Marketing 的資料科學解決方案。 資深工作者的告白 - Nicolas 的信念與困惑 四十但沒有不惑 已有超過 15 年的職涯經驗、前陣子剛過 40 歲生日的 Nicolas,在自己的 Facebook 寫下一句話:「古人說四十而不惑,但我今天還是跟之前的每一天一樣充滿疑惑。」特別好奇經歷豐富的 Nicolas,現在心中的困惑是什麼呢?Nicolas 回憶,本來以為 40 歲時自己會很清楚未來想做什麼,擁有一份穩定且可預期的工作、生活和經濟都無虞。但是真的到了四十歲後,他體會到每個階段都會有自己的問題,就算 20 歲時的困惑得到了解決,但 40 歲的他會有當下需要面對的問題,或是從前的問題因為現在不同的身份、生活、想法而有不同層次的困惑出現。Nicolas 也跟我們分享了 PayPal 一位離職 VP 的故事。這位 VP 是以色列人,本身是工程背景也有商學院經驗,曾經在知名管顧 BCG 做到 Management Director,卻在人生看似一帆風順的時候毅然決然地離職到 PayPal 從 Director 開始做起,最後做到 Senior VP 的位置。VP 的職涯再次來到一個讓人難以望其項背的高度。儘管職涯的成就已經可以保證一家人的生活無虞,但是他沒有止步於此。也許是因為身為以色列人,VP 跟他的家人們討論起未來的落腳之地,是要繼續留在美國、回以色列還是去其他的地方?一家大小沒有討論出一個共同的、很好的解答,結果這位 VP 決定辭職帶著老婆小孩一起環遊世界,並計劃在這趟旅程中做出決定。VP 的故事帶給 Nicolas 不少省思。相信很多人都跟曾經的 Nicolas 一樣,設想總有一天當各項資源都很充足的時候,人生就不會再有什麼煩惱,但是即便經濟無虞如這位 PayPal 的 VP,心中還是有很多困惑。所以,Nicolas 覺得四十而不惑其實沒那麼實際,大家也不需要因為自己沒有達到這個狀態而覺得焦慮。 在職涯與生涯都不停歇的拉鋸 - 好奇心 vs. 成本 當 Nicolas 做每個重大的決定時,最後常常都是好奇心與成本的拉鋸。職涯上的成本是同一職能可以累積的專業技能跟薪資,生活上的成本就是步入家庭後必須承擔的責任。Nicolas 回憶自己在南加大念商學院時,曾經到南美洲待了近三週的時間做 Consulting Projects。他還記得他在週日白天回到洛杉磯的家,當天晚上就又馬上出發到舊金山開始為期 11 週的 Facebook Summer Intern,實習在週五結束,週日他就回到洛杉磯準備開學。雖然在台灣當工程師時不太需要出差,Nicolas 喜歡出遊但沒有想過當成日常生活,卻在美國唸書時實踐了這樣的生活型態,但是回到現在的狀態,他覺得自己已經沒辦法再像以前一樣頻繁地出差。「年輕時花的成本比較少,年紀大之後會變謹慎。」Nicolas 又以自己的興趣為例,他特別喜歡機械類,但是為了安全捨棄機車選了汽車,隨著年齡增長,花費在興趣上面的時間也變少了。不過很有趣的是,在照顧小孩的過程中,他又回憶起一些小時候會感到有趣的事務,可以說是有捨也有得吧?Nicolas 坦言,現在回頭去看職涯上的重大決定,幾乎都是好奇心獲勝。當然成本考量也有贏過,但就結果而言,常常就不會是履歷上出現的亮點,也常常不是心中深刻的體悟。 在多變的職涯中持續堅持的信念 當我們聊到職涯上面堅信的職涯價值,Nicolas 第一時間毫不猶豫地就回答「誠信」。不管能力好壞與職位高低,名聲永遠都很重要。「業界很小,很容易遇到合作過的人,可以包裝但不能說謊。」Nicolas 誠摯地說,你可以把 100 分說成 105 分,但不能把 0 說成 1。除此之外,Nicolas 也以 SpaceX CFO Bret Johnsen 的分享為例:職涯有三大誘因直接決定去留:薪資,職務發展與熱情。薪資沒什麼好說的,這是一個客觀且關鍵的條件。再來職務發展攸關職涯是否能走得長、走得遠,也是至關重要的。但是,職場上常遇到的狀況是薪資與職務發展無法兼顧,Nicolas 就常常遇到一個對於很有發展潛力的機會但薪水不如預期,不過他想說明,以他個人的經驗,薪資的低就不會維持太久。因為對於工作有薪資以外的追求,就會非常努力達成目標,薪資跟心態的不足很快就會被彌補。第三個誘因是熱情,Nicolas 忍不住說由 Bret Johnsen 來分享真的很有說服力。SpaceX 所在的太空產業是一個非常高壓的環境,不管是金錢的成本或是負擔人命的壓力,如果沒有熱情是不可能支撐下去的。綜合上述考量時時檢視自己的發展,同時勿忘初衷,相信每個人都可以走出自己喜歡的職涯故事。Nicolas 的精選書單《設計思考改變世界》by Tim Brown 《Google 必修的圖表簡報術》by Cole Nussbaumer Knaflic《成功,從聚焦一件事開始》by Gary Keller, Jay PapasanPodcastAfter Hours by Harvard Business Review 16 Minutes News by a16z by Andreessen Horowitz WSJ Tech News Briefing by The Wall Street Journal電影The Founder (2017) Middel Men (2010)更多人才的精彩分享,敬請鎖定 Cake 的《科技職涯》Podcast!《科技職涯》是由 Cake 創立的 Podcast 廣播節目,專門邀請在科技、數位和新創領域的工作者來分享職涯趣事及觀點,每週三固定更新,目前可以在 KKBOX、SoundOn、Spotify、Apple Podcast、Google Podcast、MixerBox 上收聽,歡迎追蹤

It is primarily used in South Asian countries such as India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, or Sri Lanka.🔍 What is the difference between resume, CV, and biodata?📍 “Resume” is a concise summary that lasts about one page. The resume focuses on work-related information that includes education, work history, and other accomplishments or skills.It’s the most common document requested for a job application to show one’s competency.📍 “CV (curriculum vitae)”is for jobs or advanced studies in academia, scientific research, and medical fields. It’s typically lengthier than a resume and can take up to 3-5 pages.CV provides a detailed list of comprehensive education, certifications, research papers, teaching experience, professional affiliations or memberships, to show one’s credentials.📍 “Biodata”might serve similar functions but highlights one as a person. Biodata lists the more physical and personal side of a person, all along with education and professional experiences.With all the information about you, it exceeds one A4 and is usually 1-3 pages. Biodata helps the recipient understand your personality, characteristics, and your life in general. As for what to write in a biodata, it’s similar to a resume. Aside from biodata for jobs, there’s also biodata for marriage and biodata for college admission. Matrimonial biodata typically includes extra personal details that are not on usual biodata for job application, such as family background, hobbies, and spouse expectation. How to format a biodataBefore you dig straight ahead into writing your biodata, see some standard formats to save your time energy, and understand how to make biodata for jobs. There are 4 basic biodata formats, each with particular emphasis:ChronologicalFunctionalCombinationTargeted See the pros and cons comparison below, and select the biodata format that suits your needs most.Chronological (“Reverse-Chronological”) Reverse-chronological is the most common biodata format embraced by companies. A chronological biodata format sorts your work experience in biodata with a timeline manner. In a reverse-chronological format, list your latest experiences first, so the employer knows what you're doing recently with a general idea of your work history and professional foundation.Pros:Most used and accepted by recruiters everywhereIntroduce career path and progress clearlyShow your mobility and qualifications Cons:Gaps and empty periods are undisguisedUncommon vocational progression might raise questions Functional (“Skill-Based”) A functional biodata format allows you to use “skills” as categories for your achievements. These skills are linked to a job title to show your ability and expertise. Use a functional biodata format by selecting the skills that align with the job description, and show your talents straightforwardly. Pros:Covers discontinuous work historyStress the importance of proficiency and skillsA better option for a career change, former military to civilian, or resident who just moved to a new place Cons:A hiring executive might tell gaps in your work experience in your biodataUnfriendly for those who don’t have skills related to the job description Combination (“Hybrid”) Combination biodata format combines chronological and functional formats in one. Skills sections, or qualification summary, assorts your knowledge into categories. The reverse-chronological column presents your work experience in biodata explicitly. Pros:Both your strengths and career background are shown upfront and straightforwardHelpful for experienced applicants or anyone with solid capabilities and practice Cons:Lengthy and takes more time to reviewReiterating statement or repeating content is not ideal Targeted Targeted biodata format means tailoring and customizing each of the biodata formats according to the job ads. A well-formatted targeted biodata can be the most impressive biodata format for jobs. When writing a targeted biodata format, read the position description carefully, and put the keywords they’ve mentioned in the targeting biodata format. In a targeted format, you should modify each section to fit the requirements! Pros:It makes your biodata very attractive, leading to higher chances of hitting your target Cons:It takes more time and energy to tailor for each target companyBiodata Template Design FAQsWord (.doc) or PDF (.pdf)?Font size styleFreebiodata format🔍Biodata format in Word (.doc) or PDF (.pdf)?After you’ve completed your biodata, you either send it in MS Word (.doc) or PDF (.pdf), at least in most cases. If the recipient did not specify the file format, which one should you choose? The file type you select depends on the application channel you face: If you are applying through email, you can send two biodata formatted in Word and PDF respectively for them to choose from.If you use a job-hunting website or the company’s internal surveys, a biodata format in PDF keeps your biodata layout or fonts tight and neat.Choose PDFs as a marriage biodata format to retain the design formatting and catch attention!Biodata format in Word benefits: ✅ Pros: Large companies or people who have older versions of computers can open the file easilyCan be scanned by ATS (Applicant Tracking System)Most people are familiar with word and can edit their biodata directly ❌ Cons: Incompatible word versions will ruin your carefully designed layoutUnique fonts will not retain on different computersAllow little space for layout and graphic designBiodata format in PDF benefits: ✅ Pros: Viewers can read pdf cross-platforms, from smartphones to PC and MacBooksLayout and design stays identical ❌ Cons: Less friendly for ATS (not a problem for your biodata!)PDFs exported from Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator can be too big to send 🔍The best font size style for a biodataFor Job application biodata format, choose the basic style as biodata fonts to make sure the hiring manager can read it smoothly. In an English biodata word doc., use basic fonts like Arial, Calibri, Helvetica, or Times New Roman to make sure it’s visible on every computer. For marriage biodata format, use unique fonts to impress the counterpart. Avoid handwriting styles, and keep the small texts readable. Add colors in your biodata to make it look gorgeous (1-3 colors will be suitable)! Fonts Style:Google fonts offer free fonts for diverse languages. 矽谷阿雅專訪(上):從臺灣記者到臉書主管,不斷朝夢想邁進的職涯旅程
