EP baru bisa diproses setelah Expatriate Committee (EC) telah memberikan izin bagi pekerja asing. Dari EC, Employment Pass kemudian diproses lebih lanjut oleh Departemen Imigrasi Malaysia. Employment Pass ini hanya berlaku untuk satu perusahaan saja. Andai pekerja pindah ke perusahaan lain, maka mereka harus mengurus EP yang baru. Pemegang EP juga bisa mengajukan Dependent Pass untuk pasangan, anak-anak (di bawah 18 tahun), orang tua, mertua, dan anak yang diadopsi secara sah (di bawah 18 tahun). 2. Temporary Employment Pass Jenis visa ini biasanya digunakan untuk pekerja asing dengan jenis pekerjaan yang tidak membutuhkan skill tinggi atau semi-skilled positions. Jenis pekerjaan di Malaysia yang mendapatkan Temporary Employment Pass adalah: manufaktur, perkebunan, agrikultur, konstruksi, dan jasa layanan.
