
A Detroit, Michigan-based research scientist and gastroenterologist, Dr. Philip Schoenfeld draws upon more than two decades of experience to lead quality improvement studies on colorectal cancer screening as chief of the Gastroenterology Section at John R. Dingell VA Medical Center. He has been at the medical center since 2016. Before that, he spent 16 years in a similar capacity at the University of Michigan. Dr. Philip Schoenfeld also has staff gastroenterologist experience at National Naval Medical Center and aboard the USNS Comfort hospital ship.
Dr. Philip Schoenfeld has received more than two dozen grants to study colorectal cancer and other gastroenterology topics during his career. He has taught multiple clinical courses at academic institutions, delivered dozens of presentations, and authored more than 100 peer-reviewed articles. In addition, he has edited several journals and served on the editorial boards for the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology, Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, and Gastroenterology & Hepatology.
Complementing his extensive medical experience, Dr. Philip Schoenfeld holds membership with professional organizations such as the American College of Gastroenterology and American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He has also served on multiple councils and committees for these and other groups. He earned his MD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and also holds a master's degree in clinical epidemiology from McMaster University.
