Naomi Steinberg, Ph.D. Psychologist is a licensed psychologist with over 34 years of experience, offering individual and couples therapy from a psychodynamic perspective. Dr. Steinberg earned her Ph.D. from Penn State University and sees patients in Vancouver, Washington.
I have been licensed as a psychologist since 1992. My educational background includes a BA in Psychology from the University of Western Ontario in 1984, an MS in Agency Counseling from Indiana State University in 1986, and a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Penn State University in 1990. I completed my predoctoral internship at the University of Oregon Counseling Center in 1990, and completed postdoctoral training at the former Dammasch State Hospital in 1992.
In my practice, I see individuals and couples in brief and longer-term psychotherapy. In the course of my 34 years in practice, I have also supervised Masters and Doctoral level clinicians, carried out psychological evaluations for the Department of Social and Health Services and testified in several Termination of Parental Rights cases. I worked briefly for the Vancouver VA, carrying out Compensation and Pension evaluations.
In 2006, I completed a four-year training program in Psychoanalysis at the Northwest Center for Psychoanalysis in Portland. While I continued with my usual clinical work, I joined the faculty of the Oregon Psychoanalytic Institute, where I taught classes and served on committees, including serving on the Executive Committee as chair of Faculty Development Committee. In 2010, I had a paper published in the International Journal of Psychoanalysis. Later that year, my paper was translated into French, as it was selected to be published in the French annual journal of psychoanalysis for 2011. Related to these publications, I was awarded the Harold Boverman Award through the Oregon Psychoanalytic Institute in 2011.
Through the years, I have continued to offer consultation to Masters and Doctoral level clinicians and also supervised a licensee through the Board of Psychology. I have also presented at psychoanalytic conferences in Portland, Seattle, and New York.
