He was born in San Diego, CA, to a family where his father was a naval officer, and his mother was a school teacher. At age two, his family relocated to New England, and he was raised in Boston, MA. His academic journey commenced at Wesleyan University with a focus on Economics, where he also shone as an athlete in football and baseball. However, a back injury led to his transfer to Boston College, where he graduated with honors in Accountancy.
He attained the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) credential after his academic endeavors, passing all three examination levels on his first attempt. Further enhancing his investment expertise, he studied under Professor Greenwald in the Executive Value Investing Program at Columbia University.
His professional career began at Prudential Capital Group and Prudential Securities in 1998 as an investment analyst specializing in Commercial Real Estate and publicly traded REITs. Advancing in his career, he later became the Vice President of the Real Estate, Gaming, Lodging, and Leisure Investment Banking Group at Deutsche Bank Securities, Inc. Before laying the groundwork for his investment firm, he was a partner at a value-focused Hedge Fund based in Chicago.
